Independant Students

If you're an American or U.S. resident, you are over 18 years and want to study in France for over 90 days, it is imperative that you register with CampusFrance in order for you to obtain your student visa.

1. Choose a French university in which you want to study

If you already know which school or university you want to enroll withFrance, simply complete the online application on the CampusFrance website (accessible from the homepage on the link "create a folder").

If you do not know which institution to write to in France, return to the home page and click on "select training”. On this page you will find a choice of schools or universities. You can also consult the CampusFrance guidance sheets. If you are unable to find the field that interests you, contact us by email.

Please note that by going to your folder in "my application", then clicking the button, you can select courses that may interest you and find all relevant details.

2. CEF Interview

If you have already been accepted by a university, you don’t need go through an CEF interview.

If you have not yet been accepted by a university, you will have to go through a telephone interview with a CampusFrance agent.

3. Create your CampusFrance account

When you create your account http://usa.campusfrance.org/, you create a login (email address) and a password that will allow you to access your personal CampusFrance mailbox. We encourage you to check your mailbox regularly as you will not automatically be alerted of any incoming messages. You should keep your login and password safe! If you lose them, please contact:

4. Fill out the online form CampusFrance

A practical manual is available to help you complete the form by simply clicking on the American flag on the left of your screen.

5. Send through the post your "Money Order" and the copy of your acceptance letter from the American or French university

Your acceptance letter

It is the official document, signed and stamped, that you receive, stating your registration in a specific academic program.

The mail/email of acceptance and non-nominal letters are not accepted. Only original letters scanned and received by e-mail will be accepted.

Your Money Order

Payment is only to be made by "Money order" (order of payment for a sum of money given to the benefit of a person or an organization appointed by the payer, that may be obtained at the post office (USPS) in a bank or in "Moneygram", "Western Union" and "Currency Exchange" agencies, for the amount of $ 60 ($ 70 from March 31, 2010). You must include your registration number /CampusFrance reference number (with U.S———) and your name on the money order.

CampusFrance accepts no other payment method. Payment "online" is not active.

Upon receipt of your application, it will take approximately 3 weeks for the application to be processed.

Please enclose both documents (money order and letter of acceptance) mail them to the below address:

Once your CampusFrance file is complete, please check your status and mailbox regularly. You can also start the process of visa application within 90 days by making an appointment at the consulate. The issue of the visa depends on the sole responsibility of the Consulate of France.

6. Print e-mail confirmation CampusFrance

You will receive an email confirmation in your CampusFrance mailbox at the end of the registration. Please print, as the Consulate will ask you to provide this copy.
